RDC XI Approves Key Infrastructure Projects Worth P 981 Million
The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI approved key irrigation systems for implementation in all Davao Region provinces and Davao City in 2008 to 2010 to support the agri-business thrust of the Mindanao Super Region during its first regular meeting for the year last March 28, 2008 in Mati City, Davao Oriental. This was revealed by RDC XI Vice-Chair and NEDA Regional Office XI Director Nicasio Angelo J. Agustin during an interview.
Agustin said that these irrigation systems will be implemented by the National Irrigation Administration. These projects will cover roughly 15,000 hectares agricultural lands in Davao Region and are expected to help increase crop production, particularly for rice and corn. These projects would benefit almost 22,000 farmers.
Agustin also informed that all the Provincial Development Councils of the region have favorably endorsed these projects.
Davao Oriental Congresswoman Thelma Almario graced the meeting and shared important information on the Congressional process related to public investment for project proposal, including these irrigation projects. RDC XI members, namely, Gov. Douglas Ra. Cagas of Davao del Sur, Gov. Arthur Uy of Compostela Valley, Mayor Rey T. Uy of Tagum City, Gov. Corazon Malanyaon and Mayor Mitchell N. Rabat of Mati City, who played host to the Council meeting were also present. (noelquiratman/NEDAXI)
