RDC XI approves P27.3 billion worth of investment projects for 2010

The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI, in its first quarter meeting on March 26, approved the region’s proposed Annual Investment Program (AIP) for 2010. The AIP contains more than P27 billion worth of public investment programs and projects for the Davao Region. This was revealed by RDC XI Vice Chairperson and NEDA XI Regional Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim.

The infrastructure sector accounted for the largest share of the investment pie at P16.7 billion or 61 percent. The Department of Public Works and Highways and the Department of Energy were the top agencies in this sector. The economic sector followed with P5.1 billion or 19 percent with the Department of Agriculture proposing P3.5 billion. The social sector, on the other hand, accounted for P4.6 billion, while governance agencies submitted P0.9 billion worth of programs and projects. By project location, Davao City is expected to receive 33 percent of the investments programs.

The RDC approved the project concept for the proposed Mindanao Cancer Center at the Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City, which is seen to cater to cancer diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation needs not only of the region’s population but also for the whole of Mindanao.

The Council also discussed and approved the benchmarking process for the 2009-2010 implementation of the Davao Regional Development Plan; and was briefed on the Davao Region Tourism Plan and the Philippine Economic Resiliency Plan and its Davao Region component.

The Council also confirmed the new chairpersons and co-chairpersons for its sectoral committees for the remaining term 2007-2010, viz: Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry President and RDC XI Special Voting Member Simeon P. Marfori II and SEC XI Director Javely Paul D. Francisco as chair and co-Chair, respectively, of the Macroecomomy and Finance Committee; DPWH XI Director Osop I. Ali and Private Sector Representative (PSR) Louis N. Rabat as Chair and Co-Chair, respectively, of the Infrastructure Development Committee XI; PSR Jessie N. Pagaran and DILG XI Director Quirino M. Libunao as Chair and Co-Chair, respectively, of the Development Administration Committee XI; and PSR Iris P. Melliza and DOLE XI Director Jalilo O. dela Torre, as chair and co-chair, respectively, of the Social Development Committee XI.
