Cajes of the Maryknoll High School of Panabo City, Ms. Carla Beatriz H. Lazara of the Philippine Science High School-Southern Mindanao Campus, and Mr. Percival Adonis J. RDC XI Endorses Nominees for Makabagong Rizal Awards

The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI, through its Regional Screening Committee for the Makabagong Rizal Awards, named 7 young people as Davao Region’s nominees to the Makabagong Rizal Awards. This includes 3 nominees for the secondary level and 4 nominees for the tertiary level.

The secondary level candidates are Ellen Joy T. Cajes, Carla Beatriz H. Lazara and Francis Manuel L. Resma, all incoming 4th year high school students. Cajes is from the Maryknoll High School of Panabo in Davao del Norte while Lazara and Resma are both from the Philippine Science High School in Mintal, Davao City.

RDC XI Endorses the Creation of the Davao Regional State University System (DRSUS)

The Regional Development Council (RDC) XI endorsed the creation of the Davao Regional State University System (DRSUS) in Davao Region during its 2nd quarter meeting on April 15, 2011. The DRSUS, in line with the thrusts and directions of the region, is identified as a policy agenda in the Human Resource Development Chapter of the Davao Regional Development Plan, 2011-2016, in rationalizing governance and financing of higher education.

The DRSUS is a pilot project of CHED towards rationalizing higher education by amalgamating state universities and colleges and reducing by at least 10 percent the number of school universities and colleges (SUCs) in the country.

Mayor Sara Duterte Heads Screening Committee for the Search for Makabagong Rizal Awards in Davao Region

RDC XI Chairperson and Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte was chosen to chair the Screening Committee for the Search of Makabagong Rizal Awards, which was created by the Council during its 2nd Quarter meeting on 15 April 2011. The Screening Committee is also composed of the heads of NEDA XI and DOST XI (as Co-Chairpersons), and CHED XI and TESDA XI, NYC Commissioner for Mindanao and the Private Sector Representatives for women, youth & children (as members).

NEDA XI Initiates Operationalization of Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery Committee for Davao Region

A Terms of Reference (TOR) that would operationalize the Rehabilitation and Recovery Committee of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) of Davao Region was presented by the NEDA Regional Office XI during the 1st Regular Monthly Meeting of the Council’s Technical Management Group (TMG) for CY 2011 on 31 January 2011, at the NEDA-RDC XI Center, Bangkal, Davao City.

The TOR is the first of its kind that was formulated by a component Committee of the Davao Region RDRRMC. The TOR aims to a) establish a structure and systematic process for rehabilitation and recovery planning; b) define the roles, functions and responsibilities and scope of work of the Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery Committee (DRRC) under the RDRRMC of Davao Region; and c) describe the vertical and horizontal relationships of the DRRC to the RDRRMC and its three other component Committees.

Mayor Sara Z. Duterte is new Mindanao Representative to the NEDA Board-Regional Development Committee

The NEDA Board Regional Development Committee-Mindanao Area (RDCom-Mindanao) convened for its reorganizational meeting on 20 January 2011 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City. The meeting was attended by its member chairpersons and co-chairpersons of the Regional Development Councils (RDCs) of Mindanao, the Regional Cabinet Secretary representing of the ARMM-Regional Economic and Development Planning Board (REDPB), NEDA Regional Directors of Mindanao, and Executive Director of ARMM-Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO). Mayor Sara Z. Duterte was unanimously chosen by her counterpart RDC/REDPB officials to represent Mindanao in the NEDA Board-RDCom while RDC IX Chairperson, Mayor Evelyn T. Uy of Dipolog City, was selected alternate representative.This was bared by RDC XI Vice-Chair and NEDA XI Regional Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim.

NEDA conducts Davao Regional Consultation on the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan, 2011-2016

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) conducted a regional consultation on the draft Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP) for 2011-2016 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City on January 5.

The MTPDP, which serves as the country’s development blueprint for the next six years, has identified growth sectors based on President Benigno Aquino III’s development agenda as contained in his Social Contract with the Filipino People. The Social Contract envisions “a country with an organized and widely-shared rapid expansion of the economy through a government dedicated to honing and mobilizing the people’s skills and energies, as well as the responsible harnessing of its natural resources.”

MAYOR SARA DUTERTE IS NEW RDC XI CHAIR

President Benigno S. Aquino III has appointed Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte as Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) for the term 2010-2013. Mr. Vicente T. Lao, RDC XI’s outgoing Chair for 2007-2010, has been designated as Co-Chair.

“The appointment of Mayor Duterte as RDC XI Chair, along with Mr. Lao as Co-chair is a welcome development for Davao Region,” RDC XI Vice Chair and NEDA XI Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim said as she announced the President’s new appointments. “We are pleased to have a strong, dynamic team to jointly lead the Council for the next three years.”

RDC XI EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CONFIRMS NEW SET OF SECTORAL COMMITTEE OFFICERS

The Davao Regional Development Council XI beefs up its reorganization process as the term of its officials ended on June 30 of this year. The RDCs reorganize every three years following the election of a new set of local officials, pursuant to Executive Order 325, “Reorganization of the Regional Development Councils”, Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim of NEDA XI and RDC XI Vice-Chairperson, said.
